Am I Called?

Matthew 4:19,20 Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you a different kind of fishermen. You will bring in people, not fish.” Simon and Andrew immediately left their nets and followed him.

Am I Called?

I’ve met many a person who’s said something like this to me: “I just don’t know what my calling is. What does God want me to do?” It’s not at all uncommon. Have you heard God’s call on your life?

If Jesus were walking this earth today looking for twelve disciples, let me ask you, do you think He’d choose you? An interesting question, isn’t it? Jesus, the Son of God, walking down by the beach or through the shopping centre or into your workplace or past your home, looking for disciples.

Not perfect people, mind you … or necessarily the most highly educated ones either. He doesn’t choose the way we do: He’s looking for someone with potential, someone with a heart after Him, someone who one day could turn the world upside down with His love.

Looking here. Looking there. Listening to that small, still voice of His Father deep inside. Yes that one. Tap that one on the shoulder. “That one, Dad?” Yes – that one. She’s a woman after my own heart.

And that one over there, yes Him! I know He doesn’t look much, Son but one day … one day he’ll pour his life out to touch people with my love. Yes, that one.

Matthew 4:19,20 Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you a different kind of fishermen. You will bring in people, not fish.” Simon and Andrew immediately left their nets and followed him.

Funny thing … I think pretty much we’d expect Jesus to pass us by, and to call someone else – someone smarter, more qualified – a much better all-rounder than us. Certainly not me.

Question: today, here and now, do you hear His voice?

Come, follow me, and I will make you a different kind of fishermen. You will bring in people, not fish.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
