Do you know what I hate? Do you know what I really hate? It’s when bad people – dishonest people, rude people, manipulative people – seem to prosper. They’re doing all the wrong things, breaking all the rules and still God lets them get away with it.

Yep, I really hate that. We all do, because it offends our innate sense of justice. Good behaviour should be rewarded with good outcomes. Bad behaviour should be rewarded with bad outcomes.

If only the world was that simple! And yet sociopaths, manipulators, liars, make it into positions of power and prominence all the time. Hang on a minute, that’s not how it’s meant to work! And yet … here we are.

When you see that happening over and over again, when you see the lifestyles of the rich and famous through their ill-gotten gains, at that point, the devil comes along and whispers in your ear, “You could have that. I could give you that. Come, follow me.” Ah … great expectations. MaybeI can have what they have.

And so the seed of envy is sown. That’s how it works. The devil tempts us to rise up to their level, when all along, what he’s really doing is dragging us down into the pit.

The only way to defeat the enemy is to receive the Word of God into our hearts, so here it is:

Proverbs 23:17,18
Never envy evil people, but always respect the Lord. This will give you something to hope for that will not disappoint you.

There’s something wonderful about respecting and honouring God: About having a clear conscience: About being in rights-standing with God: In that place, we soar above the evil; in that place our hearts are filled and overwhelmed with our hope in Him.

A hope that will never disappoint. Ever.

Never envy evil people, but always respect the Lord.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
