Luke 11:9,10 So I tell you, continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them.

Okay, so … you have a problem. You take it to God in prayer, which is, after all, what you’re supposed to do. And all you get back from Him is a deafening silence. Now what?

Have you ever been to the local fast food place, ordered your burger and been told that there’s going to be a two-minute wait? TWO MINUTES??!!! You have to be kidding me!

That’s the world we live in. The world of instant gratification. Pay your money, get your burger … NOW! And all too often, we come to God in prayer with those same expectations. We imagine that He’ll wave His magic wand and fix all our problems in an instant. And when that doesn’t happen, when He doesn’t meet our fast food expectations, we lose hope, we imagine that He didn’t hear us, and we leave dejected.

Jesus told a couple of parables, one about the neighbour at midnight and another about an unjust judge. They were basically about God making us wait for what we want.

Luke 11:9-10 So I tell you, continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them.

What sort of God would do that? The sort who wants to grow your faith. The sort who wants us to persist in prayer. The sort whose timing is always, always, always, absolutely perfect.

After I became a Christian, I discovered that this one couple had been praying for me for eighteen years!

Hang in there. Don’t give up. His answer will come … just at the right time.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
