Matthew 14:15,6 Late that afternoon, the disciples came to Jesus and said, “No one lives in this place. And it is already late. Send the people away so they can go to the towns and buy food for themselves.” [But] Jesus said, “The people don’t need to go away. You give them some food to eat.”

Of all the things that you spend your hard-earned cash on, how many are absolute essentials and how many are luxuries? And, if I can be as bold as to ask this next question … can you even tell the difference anymore?

You know, it never ceases to amaze me that the more we have, the more it seems as though there’s never quite enough to go around as our “wants” grow and grow in our minds, morphing into “needs”.

We’ve all seen it … the more developed our economy becomes, the more we each look after ourselves and so the greater the gap between rich and poor grows. It’s just the way things are. And the truly crazy thing is that those who are financially well off don’t think of themselves as being wealthy. Instead, many still have this sense that they don’t have quite enough … because “wants” have become “needs”.

Imagine then that there’s a crowd of five thousand people out in a field. Jesus has been preaching all day long so …

Matthew 14:15,16
Late that afternoon, the disciples came to Jesus and said, “No one lives in this place. And it is already late. Send the people away so they can go to the towns and buy food for themselves.” [But] Jesus said, “The people don’t need to go away. You give them some food to eat.”

Really?! What with? There wasn’t enough to go around. And yet Jesus took a few morsels – a couple of fish and few loaves of bread – prayed over them, and with them the disciples fed the crowd. All five thousand of them ate their fill, and there were twelve baskets left over.

Amazing, the miracles that God’s into. While we may be driven by our wants, Jesus is driven by our needs. And in Him, there’s always enough.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
