2 Peter 1:3,5-6 Jesus has the power of God. And his power has given us everything we need to live a life devoted to God … Because you have these blessings, do all you can to add to your life these things: to your faith add goodness; to your goodness add knowledge; to your knowledge add self-control; to your self-control add patience; to your patience add devotion to God.

With just one life to live here on this earth, a life that seems to be slipping by ever so quickly, you can’t live your best life if you’re twitchy or nervous – either caught up in frenetic activity or so inwardly focussed that, even if you’re leading a quieter life, your mind’s still churning and churning, worrying and worrying.

That’s why yesterday, in this little mini-series about living your best life, we focussed on self-control and patience. Whether you’re racing through life at a million miles an hour or sitting quietly worrying about this or that, God’s gift of patience has this powerful effect of calming your spirit within.

It’s one of His great gifts to those who would believe:

2 Peter 1:3,5-6 Jesus has the power of God. And his power has given us everything we need to live a life devoted to God … Because you have these blessings, do all you can to add to your life these things: to your faith add goodness; to your goodness add knowledge; to your knowledge add self-control; to your self-control add patience; to your patience add devotion to God.

And it seems to me that you can’t be devoted to God if you haven’t allowed His peace, His patience, to rule in your heart. Because when you have that peace, when you know that He’s gifted it to you (which in truth He already has) your heart just yearns to follow Jesus wherever He leads. That’s what devotion to God is. That’s what it looks like.

Do you want to live your very best life? Seriously! Then to your faith add goodness; to your goodness add knowledge; to your knowledge add self-control; to your self-control add patience; to your patience add devotion to God

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
