With pretty much anything in life, there are different levels of passion and commitment with which we can approach them. There are different degrees of intensity with which we can deal with them

Take for instance your job – whatever that may be, paid or unpaid. Some days you may feel like throwing yourself into it, getting things done, achieving a lot … and drawing a great deal of satisfaction from the result. Other days, maybe you have different things on your mind; distractions that have your passions focused elsewhere.

As I said, with pretty much anything and everything in life, there are different levels of involvement. So when it comes to your relationship with God, what’s your level of passion, your commitment, your degree of intensity on that front?

I believe in Jesus. Well, fine … but how do you believe? When the storm strikes, what does your faith look like exactly? Do you believe in Him from a distance with an intellectual, cerebral kind of faith? If so, that’s going to be pretty useless to you in a storm, trust me. Or do you have enough faith to believe that He’ll be with you in the midst of the storm? Perhaps.

But there’s yet a still higher degree of faith that God wants you to have in Him. Here it is:

Proverbs 3:25,26 Do not be afraid of sudden panic, or of the storm that strikes the wicked; for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught. (NRSV)

In other words, be bold in the face of the storm. God isn’t just in that place with you – He’s there to make a powerful difference.

For the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.

At my moment of extreme needs due to the sudden loss of my wife and my consequent attempted suicide the Lord lifted me out of the pit of the mire and placed me upon a rock (Psalm 40) where he’s gradually polishing me. I have just moved into a flat and am trying to live independently but I’m struggling with anxiety and setting in. Please pray for me here in Shrewsbury England. Thanks.
