Luke 21:1-4 Jesus looked up and saw some rich people putting their gifts to God into the Temple collection box. Then he saw a poor widow put two small copper coins into the box. He said, "This poor widow gave only two small coins. But the truth is, she gave more than all those rich people. They have plenty, and they gave only what they did not need. This woman is very poor, but she gave all she had to live on."

Would it surprise you to know that God doesn’t give two hoots about how much you give in order to support His work? Why? Because there’s something else that’s far more important to Him than how much.

It’s Saturday, the Sabbath. People are putting money in the offering at the temple. Some well-to-do businessmen in their finery drop their money into the offering. Quite a lot of it, for most of them.

And the middle-class families, well, they don’t have quite as much as the wealthy businessmen, but they’re doing okay, so they do their bit for God too.

And then, almost unnoticed, this old, shrivelled up widow comes along – remember, there were no social security benefits back then – and she takes out her two small copper coins. Nothing like what the middle-class families were able to give, and a complete pittance compared to the wealthy businessmen. Still, she takes out her two copper coins and drops them in the offering to support God’s work.

At this point, as an aside, let me say, I’ve sometimes had some people apologising to me because this was all they could give to support our ministry. So, what’s Jesus’ take on all this?

Luke 21:1-4 Jesus looked up and saw some rich people putting their gifts to God into the Temple collection box. Then he saw a poor widow put two small copper coins into the box. He said, “This poor widow gave only two small coins. But the truth is, she gave more than all those rich people. They have plenty, and they gave only what they did not need. This woman is very poor, but she gave all she had to live on.”

You see, Jesus isn’t at all interested in how much we give. What really matters to Him, is how much it costs us.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

I found the interview with Rick… brilliantly different. I offer each day to my Lord. Remembering that I did is my challenge.
