When you find yourself in hot water, which of course happens from time to time, how confident are you, on a scale of zero to ten, that the Lord will step in to save you? And why exactly did you give yourself that score?

It can be a troubling question, can’t it? I’m in deep trouble, I’m in hot water, and I don’t know the way out. And not just that … things are going from bad to worse. At what point will God step in to pull me out of this mess? Will He step in at all?

Well the answer is ‘that depends’. It depends rather a lot, actually, on you.

Psalms 37:39,40 The LORD saves those who are good. When they have troubles, he is their strength. The LORD helps good people and rescues them. They depend on him, so he rescues them from the wicked.

As much as neither you nor I would like to admit it, sometimes we find ourselves in hot water because – let’s be honest here – we done bad! Amen?

And if that’s the case, we can easily become despondent in the realisation that it’s our fault, we deserve what’s coming to us, and there’s no way that God’s going to step in to pull us out.

Of course, like any good father, He’s likely to let us live through the consequences of our “bad” because that’s how we learn. But He also loves us more than any good father on this planet.

The LORD saves those who are good. When they have troubles, he is their strength. The LORD helps good people and rescues them. They depend on him, so he rescues them from the wicked.

It’s never too late to start doing good.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
