Luke 16:10,11 Whoever can be trusted with small things can also be trusted with big things. Whoever is dishonest in little things will be dishonest in big things too. If you cannot be trusted with worldly riches, you will not be trusted with the true riches.

Anyone who’s ever set out to do something for God will know how tough the early days can be. But as things stabilise, as they get better little by little, the prize of success looms larger and larger on the horizon. And what a dangerous place that can be.

I became aware recently of a prominent church movement that allegedly paid a well-known preacher $150,000 to speak at one of their events for a single day. If that did indeed happen (and I believe it did) that’s obscene! And yet this movement began, as most do, with a handful of people many years ago whose hearts were set on serving God.

Success has an almost unparalleled capacity to corrupt the good intentions that we may have of serving God – and not just in fulltime ministry, but in every sphere of our lives. Because success goes to our heads, it messes with our judgement in a way that the days of small beginnings never could.

But God sees it all. And here’s His warning straight from Jesus Himself:

Luke 16:10,11 Whoever can be trusted with small things can also be trusted with big things. Whoever is dishonest in little things will be dishonest in big things too. If you cannot be trusted with worldly riches, you will not be trusted with the true riches.

Be faithful in the little things. Mother Teresa once said, “God hasn’t called me to be successful. He’s called me to be faithful.”

Friend, the devil will try to bring you unstuck however he can. So don’t allow your perspective to be distorted, don’t allow yourself to be led astray by the lure of success. Be faithful – in the little things and the big things.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
