Philippians 2:5-8 In your life together, think the way Christ Jesus thought. He was like God in every way, but he did not think that his being equal with God was something to use for his own benefit. Instead, he gave up everything, even his place with God. He accepted the role of a servant, appearing in human form. During his life as a man, he humbled himself by being fully obedient to God, even when that caused his death—death on a cross.

Download audio fileOver the years, I’ve come across some really clever, successful people. How about you? People who can achieve so much more than you or I ever could – but there’s one thing that brings many of them unstuck.
The truth is that you can be smart and brutal at the same time. You can be incredibly successful and incredibly unpleasant at the same time. You can win big and lose big at the same time. Each of those is an odd combination and yet you see them in people all the time.
It’s tragic really, because when pride brings a person unstuck they end up unstuck big time. I heard someone say once that pride robs every virtue of its value before God, and I would add to that … before people as well.
You can be the smartest person on the planet but the loneliest person too, because others (not to mention God Himself) find your pride repugnant. That’s why it’s so important to crush the pride in your heart before it destroys you, because destroy you it will. Pride always comes before the fall. And the best way of crushing pride?
