One of Jesus’ disciples, poor old “Doubting Thomas” as he’s come to be known, receives rather a bad rap. But actually He asked some pretty darned good questions, the answers to which still impact our lives today.

Jesus is about to be betrayed and crucified. The disciples are mortally afraid. Everyone knew they were part of His inner circle. Would they be nailed on a cross too? It’s in that place, that Jesus says a number of pretty outlandish, outrageous things to them. Like this one:

John 14:1-6 Jesus said, “Don’t be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house. I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back. Then I will take you with me, so that you can be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.”

Not long after, they saw Him nailed to a cross. All was lost. All those amazing promises He made were down the drain. Until on the third day, He rose again. Then all of a sudden it made sense. You and I, we can’t begin to conceive of what eternity will look like. We don’t know where He’s going or what place He’s prepared for us. And some days, it even seems that all is lost. On those days, remember this:

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. The only way to the Father is through Him.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
